Cooking Classes

Cooking Classes

Nibblins offers healthy cooking classes, pastry classes and seasonal specialty classes. Read on for answers to our most common questions about cooking classes.

Bring?

What should I bring and wear to cooking class?

Nibblins will provide pens, aprons, and recipe books for taking notes.  For all classes, please wear closed-toe shoes for safety. For classes in which students do some cooking, please tie back long hair. You may bring your own aprons if you prefer, and cameras are welcome.

What is a Nibblins Tea?

Nibblins teas are demonstration classes designed to explore menu selections you might serve when hosting your own get togethers.  You'll sip on teas of your choice while the chef/instructor prepares the recipes.  At the end of class, we'll take time to taste the dishes, as well.

How do you handle allergies or dietary restrictions?

Nibblins attempts to accommodate any allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions.  To help us better serve you, you will be prompted to list any allergies when completing your reservation.

Can students younger than the specified age attend a class?

Nibblins welcomes adults and children of all ages to cooking classes.  If you'd like a younger student to attend, please contact the store directly at 540-535-0787 to make this request.  Depending on the type of class, menu, chef preference, and time of day, we'll make every effort to accommodate you.

What does my fee cover?

Nibblins class fees cover the cost of supplies, instruction, and operating expenses.  As the student, you'll get generous tastes of the food prepared, a recipe book, and a 10% discount for in-store purchases the day of class and the day after.

What if Nibblins cancels my class?

Nibblins reserves the right to cancel or postpone any class for any reason, including but not limited to, chef illness, lack of participation, or weather. In the event your class is cancelled, you'll be notified as soon as possible by e-mail, social media,  and/or phone.  If your class is canceled, we'll give you a class credit to use on another course.

How can I change or cancel a class if it's within your cancellation policy?

It's best to use the RezClick system to cancel. You can also call the store and speak directly with us. We can't accept cancellation requests through email or voice mail.

To use RezClick

  1. Sign into your on-line account and click on “My Classes.”

  2. Find the class you're canceling and click "Change.”

  3. Click on the box in front of the registered name.

  4. Click on the appropriate choice.

When you finish, your account will show an account credit. Refunds are given only as class credit.

Please note: For your next purchase, the shopping cart will NOT automatically apply the credit and deduct the cost of your purchase from your account credit before it charges your credit card.  To use your credit, you must click on the button in the middle of the page: Apply Account Credit.

Cooking classes are like tickets to a performance; the show must go on.  If you can't attend and are not within our cancellation window, we encourage you to send someone to take your place.

If I can't attend a class, what's the cancellation policy?

You can cancel your reservation and receive class credit up to 72 hours before class begins. Within 72 hours, we don't give class credit for cancellations, but you can send another person in your place.

Is it safe to use my credit card online?

Online payment via credit card is secure, fast, and easy, and it guarantees your registration is processed immediately. We're using a certificate with 128-bit SSL encryption for security.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Our online system allows us to accept Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover.

Knife Sharpening

**Please Note: Nibblins will not be held responsible for the effect of sharpening services on the warranty for your knives. In many instances, using our services to sharpen your knives may void the manufacturer's warranty. You may want to consult the manufacturer before using our services. Although we’ll put a factory-sharp edge on your knife, we do not guarantee how long the newly re-sharpened edge will last; this varies greatly depending on how you use your knife and the type of steel that it’s made of. We’ll use our discretion to determine the appropriate angle for sharpening. Outside of blade reconditioning and reshaping, we don’t offer general knife repair. Knives that are left for more than 90 days will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. We reserve the right to refuse work for any reason.

How Long?
Thinning?
How long does it take?

In most cases your knives will be sharpened and ready for pick up within 2 business days. However, during busy periods it may take up to 7 business days. If you’re in a rush, please call to find out if we have a backlog before bringing us your knives.

What is blade thinning?

When a knife has been sharpened many times and sharpening has been concentrated only at the edge, eventually the blade edge will become "chunky" and will need to be "thinned out".

In these cases, we bring the edge bevel up the side of the knife much further than is typical, essentially thinning the whole blade so that it can perform at optimal efficiency.

This process takes extra time, considerable experience and skill to perform correctly. If we feel your knife needs blade thinning, we’ll call you to be sure you’re ok with the added cost. Even with blade thinning, the cost will be much less than the cost of replacing the knife and will make your equipment function better and last longer.

Can serrated knives be sharpened?

Some serrated knives can be sharpened while others can’t. For those that can, we’ll do a tip sharpening. If we can’t sharpen a serrated knife, there’ll be no charge.

What if you can't sharpen my knife?

If we can’t properly sharpen your knife, we’ll return it to you with no charge.
