Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take?
In most cases your knives will be sharpened and ready for pick up within 2 business days. However, during busy periods it may take up to 7 business days. If you’re in a rush, please call to find out if we have a backlog before bringing us your knives.
What is blade thinning?
When a knife has been sharpened many times and sharpening has been concentrated only at the edge, eventually the blade edge will become "chunky" and will need to be "thinned out".
In these cases, we bring the edge bevel up the side of the knife much further than is typical, essentially thinning the whole blade so that it can perform at optimal efficiency.
This process takes extra time, considerable experience and skill to perform correctly. If we feel your knife needs blade thinning, we’ll call you to be sure you’re ok with the added cost. Even with blade thinning, the cost will be much less than the cost of replacing the knife and will give your equipment more life and better performance.
Can serrated knives be sharpened?
Some serrated knives can be sharpened while others can’t. For those that can, we’ll do a tip sharpening. If we can’t sharpen a serrated knife, there’ll be no charge.
What if you can't sharpen my knife?
If we can’t properly sharpen your knife, we’ll return it to you with no charge.
Please Note
Nibblins will not be held responsible for the effect of sharpening services on the warranty for your knives. In many instances, using our services to sharpen your knives may void the manufacturer's warranty. You may want to consult the manufacturer before using our services.
Although we’ll put a factory-sharp edge on your knife, we do not guarantee how long the newly re-sharpened edge will last; this varies greatly depending on how you use your knife and the type of steel that it’s made of. We’ll use our discretion to determine the appropriate angle for sharpening.
Outside of blade reconditioning and reshaping, we don’t offer general knife repair.
Knives that are left for more than 90 days will be donated to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.
We reserve the right to refuse work for any reason.
